How many mistakes can you make in the theory exam?

The figures below come from the CBR. The number of mistakes is the difference between the number of questions (or points) and the pass mark.

• Car (B): 50 exam questions in 30 minutes; at least 44 correct, so at most 6 wrong.

• Motorcycle (A): 50 exam questions in 30 minutes; at least 41 correct, so at most 9 wrong.

• Moped: 50 exam questions in 30 minutes; at least 43 correct, so at most 7 wrong.

• Taxi: 40 questions in 60 minutes; at least 32 correct, so at most 8 wrong.

• Small boating licence I (Klein Vaarbewijs I): 40 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes. A question earns 1 to 3 points. You need at least 56 of the 80 points (70%), so you may lose 24 points.

• Small boating licence II (Klein Vaarbewijs II): 27 questions (23 multiple-choice and 4 open) in 90 minutes. A question earns 1 to 4 points. You need at least 35 of the 50 points (70%), so you may lose 15 points.

In the car, motorcycle and moped exams there are 2 test questions that do not count towards the result. You get 50 exam questions plus 2 test questions; the result is about the 50 exam questions.

If you pass the car, motorcycle or moped theory exam, your result is valid for 1.5 years. The result of the taxi theory exam is valid for 1 year. The result of Klein Vaarbewijs I is valid without a time limit. For Klein Vaarbewijs II we state no period here because we have not checked it with the CBR: see cbr.nl.

Do not aim for just enough. If you clear the pass mark comfortably in your practice exams, time after time, you also have room for a hard question or a bad day. So practise with full exams and read the explanation for every mistake.
