Booking your CBR theory exam

You book the theory exam for a car, motorcycle or moped in one of these ways:

• Yourself in Mijn CBR. Mijn CBR is your personal account on the CBR website. You log in with your own DigiD, the Dutch government login.
• Through your driving school (rijschool). You first give the driving school permission in Mijn CBR. The school may charge you extra if it books for you.
• With the application form. If you have no DigiD, you send the CBR's application form for the theory exam (aanvraagformulier theorie-examen). After you pay, the CBR plans your exam and emails you an invitation at least 3 weeks before the date.

You cannot book by phone. In Mijn CBR it works like this:

1. Log in with your DigiD and click Examen reserveren of wijzigen (book or change an exam).
2. Choose the vehicle and the type of theory exam.
3. Choose a place, a date and a time.
4. Check your booking and your personal details and click Ga verder (continue).
5. Read the conditions and pay online straight away. Once you have paid, you can no longer cancel the exam.
6. You get a confirmation by email, with the invitation for the exam attached.

Decide before you book:

• The language. You take the car theory exam in Dutch or English; the motorcycle, moped and other exams are in Dutch only. Another language is possible with an interpreter (tolk), whom you book at least 2 weeks in advance through an interpreting agency the CBR has approved. See English exam and interpreter.

• Whether you need extra time. The exam with extra time and the individually supervised exam take 45 minutes instead of 30. See extra time.

• Whether you are ready. Do you clear the pass mark comfortably in full practice exams, time after time? See how many mistakes you may make.

What the CBR theory exam costs. You pay for the exam when you book it. The CBR charges one fee for the car, motorcycle and moped theory exams. Some versions cost more: the car exam in English, an exam with extra time, an exam with an interpreter or with individual supervision, and an exam in the evening (from 18.00) or at the weekend. You pay the interpreter separately, to the interpreting agency. We do not list amounts here; the current fees are on the CBR fees page on cbr.nl. Watch out for websites that look like the CBR website: there you pay more for the same exam.

Waiting times. In Mijn CBR you see which dates and times are still free at each location. Saturday slots are sometimes available, but they go quickly. If you are not old enough yet, you can book from 20 weeks before you reach the minimum age: 16 for a car, 17 for a motorcycle and 15.5 for a moped.

Rescheduling. Up to 7 days before your exam you can move it in Mijn CBR to an earlier or a later time, at most 3 times. Within those 7 days you can only move it to an earlier time, and on the exam day itself not at all. You cannot cancel. If special circumstances, such as illness, kept you from coming, you ask for your exam fee back in Mijn CBR within 14 days. If your driving school made the booking, the school arranges the change.

Resits. You can book a new exam only once your result has been processed and you have received the result form by email. You can only have one booking at a time for the same exam.

On the exam day. Be at the exam centre 15 minutes before the start, with a valid ID and your booking number. You take the exam on a computer and see your result straight after it.
